If you’re looking for something a little different from the Dumfries and Galloway music scene, YOU problem! might be worth checking out.
Formed through the Moffat-based youth music project Soundwave, the five-piece have quickly developed a reputation for doing things entirely on their own terms. With a style ranging from punk, new wave, nu metal and progressive rock, their sound does not sit comfortably within any one genre.
The band first came together when several members began writing music together outside of Soundwave. What started as a bit of fun soon developed into something they didn’t want to stop, eventually evolving into the band we see today.
Having played their first gig in November 2025, the band are still in the early stages of their journey but have already shown a determination to carve out their own path both musically and creatively.
While there is clearly plenty of silliness and chaos on the surface, there’s also a serious message running through much of what they do. Their music explores themes such as capitalism, climate change and gender inequality, reflecting a shared frustration with modern society.
Rather than just criticising the world around them, the band aim to encourage people to speak up for themselves, find community and take action where they can – all whilst having a good time.
The current line-up consists of Alix Adair (vocals, keytar, hand pan and kazoo), Andrew Madden (vocals and guitar), David Major (drums), Emily Major (vocals and bass) and Josh White (vocals and guitar).
Alix recently spoke to Small Town Sounds about the band’s plans for the months ahead:
“We’re currently in the process of self-recording some demo tracks, with aims to release a few singles later in 2026. We also have a few gigs lined up within the region, with the next at the Coach and Horses, supported by Someone Else’s Radio, on Sunday the 19th of July at 3pm.”
